Tomi',
Thank you for a very interesting update on new developments in your
area! I am continually impressed by how much synergy is possible
when there is state-wide organization, whether by government agency
or by membership association. And I applaud the individuals here
on MSAR-Riders (posters and lurkers alike) who are working so hard
leading efforts to pull us all together and organize MSAR resources
in their respective states.
FEMA's SAR job titles document omits many jobs. Perhaps it is not
necessary to go into extraordinary detail. After all, the document
focus is on SAR management jobs, not (field team) responder jobs.
MSAR was not singled out: SAR responder jobs using ATVs, mountain
bikes, snowmobiles, skis, etc. also did not get their own formal
job titles. We might argue that we should be more like SAR canine
resources, but at this time we simply have not developed horses as
a trained SAR resource on a level comparable to SAR dogs.
Wilderness SAR Technician fits me well enough, when my job is on a
field team, on foot or on horse.
Tomi', I gather from your post that Maryland and Virginia are in
FEMA region III: can you point us to a website where the regions
are defined?
Una
