Hi Mellissa,
Welcome to MSAR-Riders!
As you have learned here, in Washington state the SAR unit in
Clark County has an MSAR specialty team. Cowlitz County also
has a SAR unit. Going by their website http://www.ccsar.com/,
they do not at this time have an MSAR speciality team. Do you
have prior experience relevant to SAR? If so, you might try
to start an MSAR specialty team in Cowlitz County. If not, I
would recommend you either join the MSAR team in Clark County
or join the Cowlitz County team but expect to spend some years
learning the ropes as a groundpounder. Starting a new unit
or specialty field team involves leadership skills and a good
grasp of the local SAR culture in which you will be operating.
Hope this helps,
Una Smith
