Just FYI: I was told by Eric Thompson of Shawnee Police Department that
FEMA will begin requiring certified animal handlers at disasters such as
Katrina. The volume of animals and people who would not leave their pets
made a bad situation worse.
Anyone in Kansas or the surrounding area who desires emergency transport of
a sick horse to a local vet or veterinary college should look at Officer
Thompson's website: www.eeru.org Their phone number is: 913-522-3064. They
also educate fire and rescue personnel on safe extrication and handling of
injured animals.
