GPS - Map - Seat-of-the-pants... They're all just tools of the trade.
We should know their strengths and limitations and chose/use appropriately.

I agree that a USGS map and a good compass used properly are a great
pair of tools. However, here in Florida visible landmarks are almost
non-existent. If you need to locate your present position it is very
difficult, if not impossible, to find two or more landmarks to use for
triangulation. The highest point in the state is only 327 ft above sea
level. A GPS, even with its obvious limitations, is a much better way of
pinpointing your location. We carry GPS units but not without map and
compass also.
