Paid people go to paid conferences because it justifies the item in the
budget. And I understand there are some good times and job networking for
all.

I went to the 2001 ITRS (Friday-Sunday) I did so by convincing my boss that
I should fly home to Philadelphia from Hartford, CT via Denver. Where I used
the company discount for a car and the hotel which was cheaper than the
conference rate. I paid the conference fee. I understand they will be back
in Golden, CO this November.

Have never been to a NASAR conference because of the week days--when I had
the vacation I couldn't use it due to work and when I wasn't working
couldn't afford 10 days out of town. I was at the 2nd International Animal
Rescue Conference as a presenter and have attended some one or overnight
conferences in the area on an organization nickel for things like trail
planning and maintenance or SAREX's. Now that I am consulting I guess I
could justify the trips as business development (at least to my tax
accountant).

If you are a career person it is possible to attend to a national conference
on the company or at least not have to use leave to do so. If you are
retired you just go. And if you work to support your horse, you stay home.
