I have been very impressed with "underground" purebred dog
rescue networks that the Internet has allowed to proliferate.
These networks tend to be very private and operate with no
money, so they can be hard to hook into, but they're a good
way to find a high-quality animal at low cost. Eventually;
you should expect to get on a waiting list.
The Internet has helped these networks get organized, but
what is really driving them is the high price of purebred
animals, including stud fees. Which means there are long
waiting lists of people waiting to receive a rescue dog.
Perhaps others here, with more direct experience, will say
more about this.
