Our horses are used to foraging steady and we find with the
distances we travel, we like to feed while they are in the trailer.
We travel with a 3-horse angle and tend to leave the hay on the
floor of the trailer, in front of the horses. We sometimes have
some hay wastage, but the horses arrive content and ready to
go. Any time we hauled without hay, we found the horses to
be irritable when we arrived at our destination. We change
the bedding in the trailer after each use to ensure it is clean
and ready to go.

We also travel with oat bags, which came with the trailer when
it was purchased. These we add a large block of ice to and find
even the Thoroughbreds do not dehydrate during any of our trips,
even in the most extreme temperatures.

We never tie our horses in, which allows us to unload quickly.

Just our opinions and what works well for us in our years of
experience on pack trips, showing and SAR missions.
