You have to talk to the SO. He is the one calling out resources and must be
convinced that your resource is valuable to him in getting the job done.
This will be difficult if he has been successful for 20 years doing it
another way. You must be non-threatening to him and the other group. You
might want to point out that your horses run on hay, not gasoline; are
quieter, more environment friendly, don't get flat tires, etc. The same
applies for the dog people. You need all the resources you can get for a
search, applied correctly to the problem. Tone down your ego and accept that
there is a place for quads in the world, maybe not in sage forests but
somewhere.
