Each person on our team must have on their horse on each search,
wire cutters
knife
whistle
emergency foil or thremal blanket
paper/writing utensil
30 (or more) feet of rope
canteen
work gloves
maps
hatchet
flashlight w/exta batteries and bulb
bell
rain gear
some onf these things have a specific use such as the whistle, it can signal others where you are, either the search subject or other searchers.
the bell (heavy jingle bell or goat bell to be worn by the horse) can also let others know where you are, but we have a lot of hunting areas we work in, so it is to keep us safe. The down side it is a constant noise that might effect how well you hear some noises that could lead you the search subject.
the flashlight, in case a normal search goes south and we have to spend the night in the woods, you have some light source to for what ever needs in dark.
On each person (in fanny pack or large pockets) thinking basic survival
canteen or water bottles
fire starter/water proof matches
compass
reflective orange vest
granola bars, etc
0527 hours now and leaving for work will try to send more later.
Hope it helps, Brenda Durham, East Fork State Park Volunteer Mtd S&R
