Hi Celia. Welcome to MSAR-riders. Can you tell us more about
your group, and SAR in Georgia? What are ARC and GEMA? How is
SAR managed in Georgia: is there a state-wide authority, as in
New Mexico; or is SAR managed independently by each county or
other local agency, as in many eastern states? Is there an
e-mail list for SAR in Georgia, and have you subscribed to it?
A good way to demonstrate you are serious is to get training
outside your local SAR system. For instance, by joining NASAR
and attending their training conferences, or by taking a course
in Wilderness First Aid (several national organizations offer
these), or by going to a SAR conference in an adjacent state.
None of these training activities require advance recognition
in your local SAR system. Do you all have current basic First
Aid and CPR certificates? Are any of you licensed amateur
radio operators? Does your group have enough radios so that
all teams carry at least one? You could also host your own
SAR training; there are several NASAR instructors in Georgia:
