Chimps made honorary citizens of Wash. town
CLE ELUM, Wash. -- Cle Elum's City Council took a few minutes for
monkey business.
Or, more accurately, chimp business.
Tuesday night, the council voted to designate seven chimpanzees at a
Cle Elum-area sanctuary as honorary citizens of the central Washington
town.
The primates arrived a year ago at Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest,
after being used in biomedical research in Pennsylvania.
The Daily Record in Ellensburg reports that the council passed the
proclamation unanimously. The proclamation also praises Cle Elum
residents for donating food, blankets, toys and their time to support
the chimps.
