Senior Lecturer in Primate Conservation (Permanent, full-time)

Position Description:
The Department of Anthropology and Geography is seeking a conservation
biologist with a strong research record and enthusiasm for teaching to
complement our team on the MSc in Primate Conservation.
Overall purpose of post: To undertake academic and academic related
responsibilities, specifically to contribute to teaching, research and
administration for the MSc in Primate Conservation
Main duties:
1. To contribute to the enhancement of the national and international
reputation of the Department as a centre of high quality teaching and
research
2. To contribute to administration, teaching and supervision of
students taking the taught masters course in primate conservation
using appropriate instruction methods, and to set and assess students'
work.
3. To supervise and assess MSc students' projects and dissertations
and, if appropriate, supervise students engaged on higher degree work
by research.
4. To undertake research relating to primate conservation, leading to
national and international quality publications, to seek funded
research opportunities, and engage in scholarly activity (eg keeping
up to date with developments in the discipline).
5. To undertake curriculum development work including planning,
development, evaluation and updating of courses and course materials,
and to supervise course provision.
6. To care for the pastoral needs of students including counselling,
welfare and guidance.
7. To manage and administer education processes including the
administration and management of education and training programmes.
8. To participate in the administrative processes of the institution
including committee membership, quality assurance procedures,
recruitment and admission of students (such as visit days).
9. To represent the institution on or to external bodies, if appropriate.
10. To contribute to income generation through application for
research grants and the launching of new courses, or the extension of
existing courses.
11. To participate in the annual Personal Development and Review
process and staff development activities.
12. To undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required by
the School and University having regard to the general principles used
in the above descriptions.
You will be responsible for:
* Teaching and administration on the MSc in primate conservation
* Undertaking research leading to national and international publications
* Helping to develop income generation linked to the course (e.g.
distance and e-learning delivery or launch of access and specialist
courses)
*Supervision of MSc projects in primate conservation in the field, in
captivity or literature-based
Qualifications/Experience:
Experience required for post: Experience of postgraduate teaching in
Higher Education or demonstrable teaching potential (training in
teaching methods is provided for those without a minimum of five
years' relevant experience). Proven research record or demonstrable
research potential (research training and support is provided if
appropriate).
You should have:
*PhD or equivalent qualification in a discipline relevant to primate
conservation
*First-hand experience in research relating to conservation
*Ability to lead teaching on two modules currently available to MSc
students: 1) Primate Diversity, Biogeography and Status; 2) Genetics
and Population Management; 3) Captive Management and Rehabilitation
and 4) Environmental Education, or a suitable alternative module, but
preference given to those who can teach 2, 3, 4, or suitable alternative.
*Ability to supervise student projects/dissertations
Note: Training in teaching and research will be provided, if
appropriate, as the appointee will be expected to take the
Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education and the
Research and Research Management training programme during the first
three years.
Salary/funding:
Starting salary: £32,795, rising annually to £40,335
