Santa Maria, California - A former Michael Jackson maid told jurors on Friday how she had to clean up ape droppings off the walls of the eccentric superstar's bedroom in his fantasy-themed Neverland Ranch.
Adrian McManus confirmed she had been bitten twice by the pop idol's pet chimpanzee and that she had to change its diapers and clean up its mess.
"Did you clean up monkey droppings off the floor?" prosecutor Ron Zonen asked her. "No, off the walls," McManus answered.
It was not the first time the pet, apparently called Max, was mentioned at Jackson's child sex trial, where jurors also heard of the star's more famous erstwhile companion, "Bubbles" the chimp.
Court-watchers were desperately trying to understand why the prosecution wanted jurors to hear of the business with the chimps, which Zonen wrongly identified as monkeys rather than apes.
"That does show that Michael Jackson is unusual, but everybody knows that," said legal analyst Jim Moret.
However, he added, "It has no relevance to any of the allegations of molestation." - Sapa-AFP
