A langur looks up while waiting for food in Bangladesh's southwestern
Keshabpur village,
where the endangered monkey species survive purely on local charity, August
7, 2003. The
number of langurs, once seen all over Bangladesh, has sharply declined with
virtually no
official effort to keep them safe and alive. But Keshabpur villagers, mostly
Hindus, say
they provide food and shelter to the langurs because they believe the langurs
are
disciples of Hindu Lord Rama and thus considered a sacred animal. Picture
