VERY RARE GORILLA HAVING HARD TIME REJOINING KIN
(Englewood-AP) -- An orphaned female gorilla rescued from Rwandan poachers and cared for by an Englewood organization will be reintroduced to the wild early next year. An effort to reintroduce the young mountain gorilla to a group in Rwanda's Parc National des Volcans recently failed. It suffered bites after the group rejected her. Rwandan police rescued the two-and-a-half-year-old female from poachers in October. Since then, the gorilla has been in the care of veterinarians from the Englewood-based Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project and two other organizations. Despite the failed attempt, the group says reintroduction is still the best option. There are only 650 known mountain gorillas on Earth. Most live in three equatorial countries in Africa.
