School children trap escaped monkey
A group of primary school children leaving a French
class have helped recapture a two-year-old monkey
which had gone on the run from a nearby wildlife park.
Children at the Grante Montessori French Class in
Shepreth, Cambridgeshire, found the south American
squirrel monkey.
It was playing on the path outside the village hall
where their lesson was taking place.
Some of the youngsters fed the monkey fruit while
others kept it away from traffic until staff from the
Shepworth Wildlife Park arrived to round up the
escapee.
They then watched as a keeper spent about 20 minutes
enticing the monkey from a tree before returning it to
the park.
The monkey had travelled about a quarter of a mile
across the village recreation field after escaping.
Staff were not sure how long it had been on the run.
