I, too, start mine in flats and transplant up. Elaine Denver From: market-farming-bounces AT lists.ibiblio.org [mailto:market-farming-bounces AT lists.ibiblio.org] On Behalf Of Pam Twin Oaks I use open wood flats, 4" deep. Or I grow them in a nursery seedbed outdoors. Leek (and onion) roots are pretty tough, without much in the way of root hairs. Just dig up bunches of transplants and shake them apart, or if they're a bit big for that, put them in small buckets of water and then shake them apart in the water. It's a lot less work, which really matters if you are growing 3500 or so. Just a different approach to consider, Happy winter festivities (do farmers get holidays?) Pam -- |
