Unlike deer, raccoons are not so easy to dissuade. Our farm is within the I-275 loop and thus within an urban population, even if its the fringe of it. We've actually had people asking if they could dump their have-a-heart traps on our property like putting them out here was not going to be a problem for us. Some people do not ask and simply dump them. It sounds horrible, but the population is nearly as bad as the deer population. At least deer are tasty and do not go to waste. I genuinely loath having to do it but they are dangerous animals when it comes to equine and food safety issues.
