When I set basil transplants for our earlier harvests I tend to go with four to six inches. And we still harvest pretty young. Once we get into the "warm" season. I direct seed basil and do single cut harvest for a week or few depending on conditions. Direct seeded the in row spacing is rather close and its a dense row. Probably +/- 1". I'll do three to four rows in the bed at about 8". Harvested young this has always worked pretty well. The quality is really good and the efficiency is good. We do bunches and sometimes bulk harvest. The only possible drawback is the smaller plant structure results in a bit more soil splash. I'd think the 2" spacing with the paper pot would work similarly. Brian
