We planted a few Indigo Rose tomatoes this year, just to see what they are like. We picked a few this evening, and they are pretty, a very deep purple that looks almost black. I sliced one up and it's bright green inside with no flavor. Obviously not mature, so how do you tell when they are mature? Johnny's catalog says " green when unripe, purple red when ripe. I'm guessing I picked too early, and the tomatoes will turn from this really dark purple to a more purple-red? Is anyone else growing these?
Thanks,
Carla

Hmm, could that be one of the chemicals reputed to do honeybees in?

Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

All the crops I grow are pre treated with imidacloprid. This keeps my stuff insect free for most of the early weeks of growth. There is some disease starting to show up but so far this is a typical growing season in south Jersey... Bob.
