Is this an unusual cool spring in the east this year, or is this just normal? We are burning up here in Kansas. Highs in the upper 80's to mid 90's and a high of 97 on Wednesday. Cooler today, but threat of wind, hail and possible tornadoes this evening. I guess we all have our own problems to deal with.
I must get my peppers transplanted today (in a high tunnel). I have been trying to do this for several weeks now, if it doesn't storm, I may be successful.
Good luck with your cold protection. Wish I could send some heat your direction.

Beth,
The garlic should be good. I would cover the cabbages. We usually have both out by now, but haven't made the time to put them out yet.
I am tired of this cold weather and it is just staying at 32 degrees all day today. and very windy. Miserable.

I know napa cabbage is very cold hardy, and I think Early Jersey Wakefield is
too. But, does cabbage “button” from cold as broccoli does? I am trying to avoid covering the plants (4 leaves stage), or even wondering if it is worth it to cover them. Garlic is about 16 – 24” tall. Any thoughts on the garlic? I cut the row cover that had been on the garlic in two since it had torn, and it is quite windy to be handling row cover. Forecast here is 23.
