I went ahead with the sheathing insulation. I think that it's
inflammable (but I guess I don't know) My point wasn't to insulate the
heat but to heat the board and spread out the heat (which I thought I
had as an instruction a few years back...from SOMEWHERE...) It
actually seems to be working ok. The wet sand idea is a good one, of
course. I do wish my head mat was consistent across is surface.

what about the thermostat probe? I'm sticking mine in the first seed
flat. with only 1 inch of soil in a flat, it doesn't hold very well.

I've used separate pots of soil before, but I don't know that doing
that makes for any improved accuracy.
