Several times in the past I've posted to explain
that not all state Farm Bureau's have insurance companies. In some cases, over
the years, several state Farm Bureau's have combined their insurance companies
and are multi-state insurance companies. We are very fortunate in Michigan that
our Farm Bureau Insurance company is the leading provider of farm owners
insurance. It is a Michigan only company, which means it can offer insurance
only in Michigan. Because our diverse fruit and vegetable industry, as well
as livestock, has a long history of direct marketing, Farm Bureau
Insurance of Michigan is very familiar with the needs of farmers.
Where ever insurance is purchased, it is critical
to read the policy as well as ask questions of the agent. Too many times policy
holders assume certain coverage's and limitations, then are mad at the insurance
company after claims are made. It goes without saying that not all policies are
comparable. Companies develop products based on many factors and the state they
do business in has some say in the offerings as well. Be sure of any exclusions
or limitations from the get go and save headaches later on if you should have a
claim.

SW Michigan where lake effect snow bands are
staying to the west of us this time. Greenhouses and high tunnels still
producing tomatoes, salad greens and more, I'm happy to say. No green peppers,
though.
