Leaves are the way plants feed themselves. If they are young, healthy
leaves, it is probably better for the plant to leave them on. But if they
are aging and seem to be fading in color, they are probably past their
useful life. It is common in greenhouse tomatoes to remove leaves below the
last harvested cluster because there is enough foliage above the remaining
fruit to keep feeding the plant and produce quality fruit.

When I cut pods off the okra, I also take the leaf off and throw it in the
row for mulch. It doesn't seem to hinder the plant and it makes the stuff
easier to work with throughout the season.

Am I missing out on production by doing this?
