Hello All,
At least for me, I had little squash bug, cucumber beetle, and other cucurbit pests in the field. We cooperated with Iowa State University on row covers to prevent damage and the students told me they found very little insect pressure (of any pest, not just cucurbit ones) on the entire farm.
It seems like this year they are making up for last year. Someone on the list mentioned earlier this year about how bad the insects are supposed to be since the ground never froze and it appears they were right. Just as soon as the first true leaf showed on the Summer Squash, the beetles ate it to the petiole. I was able to save a majority of the plants by spraying them with Surround (kaolin clay). This is my first year using it, but have been happy so far (although looking at rows of "white" plants sure is weird). Not sure if it is "listed" for beans and bean beetles, but I think it may help. By the way, bean beetles and cucumber beetles look almost exactly alike, but in my experience don't eat what the other does. Although I did have more Colorado Potato Beetles on EGGPLANT then POTATOS (I know its the same crop family, just found it bizarre).
