Usually the payroll taxes are held aside in your accounting system as liabilities. If you list them as income it will throw off your income statements/reports. I did a quick search and found this doc that appears to outline how to set this up in Quicken   http://agecon.okstate.edu/quicken/files/payroll_instructions_09_2.pdf. I have done payroll using QuickBooks. (Bookkeeper is one of the many hats I wear.)  If I can be of help email me at info AT wendysproduce.com

Disclaimer – I am not now nor ever will be a full fledged accountant – use at your own risk – wash before eating – may contain seeds -  etc etc etc

I have an employee now, first time. I know Quicken has a payroll add-on, but this is only for the summer and I have a duplicates pages form book with all the info in boxes.  But, I would like advice on entering the checks into Quicken. I would prefer to do a split transaction showing gross pay and social security. Do I put her gross wages in as an expense and then the Social Security deduction as income? That is the obvious way, but I wondered how others did it.  Thank you.
