I can't help you with using Quicken, but will mention that in NY the payroll threshold for ag employers where you need to carry workers' compensation insurance is $1,200.00. If you will pay at least this much this season, you'll need to purchase Workers' compensation insurance to stay legal.

I have an employee now, first time. I know Quicken has a payroll add-on, but this is only for the summer and I have a duplicates pages form book with all the info in boxes. But, I would like advice on entering the checks into Quicken. I would prefer to do a split transaction showing gross pay and social security. Do I put her gross wages in as an expense and then the Social Security deduction as income? That is the obvious way, but I wondered how others did it. Thank you.
