Do you or any of your neighbors have livestock and thus baling twine from the hay?  We use baling twine (most of which is nylon now) for all sorts of tie-up and tie-back needs.  It's free, it doesn't break down in direct sunlight (ever!) and wow that stuff is strong.  And the best part - there's so much of it I can use it freely to do whatever junky task I need done, knowing that if I ruin it, there's plenty more.  If you don't keep livestock, perhaps someone in your neighborhood does.  They'll look at you like you're off your rocker, wanting all that twine, but they may point out the inevitable pile of evil twine and strongly encourage you to take all you want.  Just a thought......

I have a number of low tunnels made from bent conduit hoops and covered in greenhouse plastic. We've had April in March for the past week here in the northeast, and I have needed to pull the plastic partly off to keep them from overheating. My question is about holding back the plastic. I currently have all my spring clamps from the shop in service, pinching the pulled-back plastic against the hoop. I am reluctant to buy more clamps just for this purpose, and wonder if anyone has a suggestion for an alternative way to keep the plastic from flopping back down to the ground after I pull it up.

thanks, Richard
