Happy New Year All,  I am interested in growing saffron in Zone 5.  Common Saffron (Crocus Sativus)  is hardy to zone 6.  It can be grown in zone 5, but it is recommended to be dug up during hard winter months.  It seems this would adversely effect it's flower production, as it grows throughout winter and is dormant in summer.

Crocus Sativus 'Cashmirianus" is supposed to be hardy to zone 5.  Has anyone had experience with this hardier saffron?

Thanks, Michael
