go with the g. what is the max wheel centers you can run with a cub?
the g will handle 60 stock, 72 with customization. on five acres i
assume you won't be running on less than 48" centers. if you are
running less than 60" centers. . . and the cub won't handle it. . .
you're sol until you find a replacement tractor. with the g you're up
and running on a wider spacing in a couple hours.

the g isn't so good for potato plowing/hilling. . . though. not enough
weight. maybe my soil is just that heavy. a set of 20" discs just make
it jump beds without front weights. maybe you are more fortunate and
don't have a clay loam.

just make sure you have the cults or access to them before buying.
probably true with the cub as well. the 'standard' single row cult for
the g isn't worth too much. look into the planet jr cults and buy as
many as you can find. we have three sets for 60" centers. . . and that
isn't enough. one disc, one beet hoes, one shovels. all for different
spacings. if you go with the old stuff. . . learn how to weld if you
don't know how. if you can't find parts. . . you can always fabricate
them.

there aren't too many parts for the g you can't get. . . at least on
stuff that typically goes bad. . . wires, starter, generator/alternator,
engine parts, clutch. easy to work on. even an engine swap is a half
day event.

ideally, i would like to have a g and a ih 274 or comperable. something
with more weight and a 3pt in addition to the g. much easier to train
people on the g than cultivators. beauty in design.

i would probably go diesel before electic on the g. homebrew bio at
1$/gallon vs the ever expanding electirc bill.
