Last year I planted fall peas twice in zone 5. They rotted in the
ground without coming up. This year I planted peas in pots outside in
zone 6 and they sprouted but died right away. The same seeds I
planted in the basement for pea shoots seem are doing fine. Maybe it
is too hot outside? It regularly goes over 80 during the day.

I've bought from Ivy Garth, Germania, Johnnys, and Geo Seed. Prices
vary. I've had good luck with all of these companies. My favorite
sunflower is Pro Cut Orange, followed by Sunrich Orange,  Sunbright,
and Sunbright Supreme.  They always sell well at our market.

I too am having cool weather, not much sun and showers/rain frequently.

Tonight is supposed to be down to 42 to 45 degrees. I don't think my
tomatoes will do well either, and neither will my hot peppers. Both of these
are big money makers for me. I guess not this year. If we had sun, maybe
they would get ripe. I am still waiting on the Spring carrots and beets to
get big. Everything is about 2 weeks later than normal, except for these 2
and the potatoes are taking longer.

According to the almanac, and sometimes this is accurate and sometimes not,
we are going to have cool and wet weather the next few months.

I have not had good luck growing peas in the fall, but am wondering if this
year I might do well, any comments?

I think I will plant spinach now. Maybe that will cause us to have sun and
heat!!

HI sue,
If you want to do fall peas, plant them ASAP.  The blossoms are very
sensative to frost, which this year could come early!

-There are many good, excellent and reliable seed people for sunflowers. For
the best ornamental sunflowers look for pollenless and, I think,
non-branching varieties.
I buy from Fred Gloeckner, Harris, Germania, and Geo seed.. All of these
seed people have a presence on the web. The seed is sold in lg and small
quantities. Try the green centered ones for a hoot or the bi-color like
Joker or Red and Lemon Procut especially for fall sales. You can still plant
for this year if you use the 60 day varieties.

I have been reading this list for about a year and want to thank you for all
of the helpful information.  I recently retired and have plans to
participate in a local farmer's market later this summer, but primarily next
year.  This summer will be spent getting new garden areas growing and
learning more about growing at a larger scale.  Compared to many of you, I
will always be a small scale producer.

My question:  Who are good dealers of ornamental sunflower seeds at a
reasonable price?  Thanks in advance for your help.
Mac

I need a replacement top for my EZUp, and am looking at a bright yellow one.
I remember that some colors enhance the appearance of vegetables, and others
have a negative effect. But, I don't remember which colors do what. Anyone
know whether yellow is good, or just stick with white. I don't like the deep
shade under a dark color, but would like something that stands out from the
crowd a little.

Yes - cool weather.  I like it but many of my crops do not. BUT, I have the
nicest cauliflower by far than ever before. Cassius, which is highly rated.
But this year isn't really testing it. But the heads are huge and gorgeous.
For that matter, my Early Jersey Wakefield has gotten huge also.

Thank you.

Try this link.  I think it will help with yellow.
