True, but actually that's not the problem. Heat treatment can take care of that.
The problem is that people put all kinds of things into the sewers that aren't, ah, poop; either on purpose or without realizing it. Lead. Mercury. Chemical solvents. Leftover drugs. Poisonous "household cleaners". Pesticides (most of which break down, but some of which don't). Industrial wastes and household wastes can contain all these things; sometimes at high enough levels to cause serious problems.
