Good morning!

We find that attending conferences on organic/sustainable agriculture is one of the best things we do for our on-going education. Not only are there lots of interesting sessions, but the networking between growers is priceless.  One of the best in the south, the Southern Sustainable Agriculture Working Group (SSAWG) will be in Louisville, Kentucky for the second year January 25-28, 2007. http://www.ssawg.org/conference-.html

There are short courses on Thursday, field trips on Friday morning (one to our farm to look at our high tunnel winter growing) and over 50 sessions from soil building to insect management, grass husbanded livestock to community food systems, finances to agri-tourism.  Also, a ‘Taste of  Kentucky’ banquet on Saturday evening.  Come and join us.  Last year we had over 900 attend!

I got some updated information on the scholarships this morning.  So if you are a farmer and want to attend, here it is:

The state Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) SCHOLARSHIPS, for attending the Southern Sustainable Agriculture Working Group (SSAWG) conference, are now available through your state SARE Coordinator.  THE APPLICATIONS MUST BE TURNED-IN BY DECEMBER 8, 2006!!!

Each scholarship consists of:  (1) a general conference registration; (2) a ticket to the Banquet-with meal; (3) a farm tour, which I will ask you to choose when we register you; (4) your hotel, which is the only thing that has to be reimbursed <everything else is covered up-front by SARE>; and (5) free travel on a motorcoach.  You will cover your meals except for the Friday lunch on the farm tour and the Saturday evening Banquet, which are included in your registration.

Go to this web site to see who is your state SARE Coordinator(s):

However you get here, it’s going to be fun – and very educational.  Hope to meet some of you!
