BeeFarmer, I don't know how many berries you are talking about, But.
Is there another market that is close that will be open? Could you move what you have at a road side stand? Could you do a U-pick type of market?
We freeze some berries both blueberries and blackberries, for our own use. All others are sold on the Dallas Market fresh.
Freezing, place on cookie sheet unwashed, freeze and bag. I find that if washed the berries will freeze together in a clump. If you juice the berries what would you do with the juice? How would you sell it, Maybe in jelly? If so why not make preserves, no juicing needed. Bill

Subject: [Market-farming] Blackberry Questions
This question probably goes to Willie, but if you know the answers, please
don't hesitate to share your knowledge.
Our Farmers' Market won't be starting until July 8th. Needless to say, my
blackberries will be pretty much done by then. As I see it, I have two
options - freeze and/or juice the berries.
On freezing, how should I go about it? Am thinking of washing in cold
water, spreading out on sheets, freezing, and placing into bags. How dry
should the berries be before freezing - any tips on how to wash, dry, and
bag? Is my thinking on the right track for freezing? Sure could use some
tips.
On juicing, I've looked until my eyes are bugging out trying to find a good
juicer. What I'm finding is, it seems best to press it out using a fruit
press - is this correct? Presses are VERY expensive, but if that's what I
need, then so be it. Sure could use some advice on this topic. Sources of
juicers or presses will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your help.
