I am trying to keep better records this year. I seeded several varieties of tomatoes for planting in the hoophouse on Feb 18. I notice today that almost all the varieties have flower buds. The varieties include Moskvich and Manitoba for early, Early Cascade, Big Beef, Prudens Purple (the first to have flowers), Brandywine, Rose de Berne, Black Prince, Sun Gold, Sweet Baby Girl, etc. On Brandywine I have to really look and sort of imagine buds, but the others are definitely showing buds. So, they range from very early varieties through mid-late varieties, all starting to bloom at the same time.

I probably hadn’t really thought of it before, but assumed that later varieties bloomed later and earlier varieties bloomed earlier. If they are all starting to bloom at the same time, is the difference in time for the fruits to ripen rather than time to start setting fruits?

Curious.
