Also, unless you have huge hands and tall
shoulders, I recommend you get two of the shorter 82’ lengths instead of
the 164 foot lengths. We have five sets of the long, and when I replace one I
will pay extra to have shorter ones to move around. I just can’t hold all
the stakes in my hand and I trip over the folded ends. I can’t gather it
together enough to roll it well either – I have to start at both ends and
it just doesn’t come out right in the middle. I love the stuff, but will
get the shorter lengths next time. The guys in the photo on the Premier website
have to be over 6 feet tall. Beth Spaugh From:

[mailto:market-farming-bounces AT lists.ibiblio.org] On Behalf Of Andy Wendt Premier has come out with a new style of electronet fencing that has
stays every 5-6 feet instead of every 14 or so. However, you only have to put
in 1/2 of the stakes, because 1/2 of the stakes just sit on top of the ground.
This should help keep the netting from sagging so much and make it more
resistant to high winds. If anyone is thinking about getting the electronet fencing they should
get 2 roles of fencing for every one that they put in the field. This makes it
so much easier to move livestock! Otherwise moving them gets downright
impossible and time consuming. Andy Wendt On Mar 28, 2006, at 11:35 AM, Nan Johnson wrote:
Re: Premier fencing for goats - I use the 4 ft Electrashock
net fencing, but not frequently. It does tend to sag alot between stakes. When I worked at the Heifer International ranch, we used
this Electrashock goat fencing for herd of 50 goats & sheep and two Scotch
Highland cows with horns - calf got tangled in it one day, but we could repair
it. We moved it every few days for intensive grazing. I do use the Premier Poultry net fencing for my rare ducks
(Silver Appleyards), though I have a Great Pyrenees as "back up"
since in a storm, the sections of this fencing have blown over enough to start
sparking where hot wire touches ground. Also, it takes a lot of mowing in Have no idea if the fencing or the dog are what have kept
fatalities to zero (lost ALOT of ducks before the two, which were put in place
simultaneously). These ducks don't fly and they trained to the fencing
immediately. I am using their solar battery. nan at dancing goats farm, n. _______________________________________________ Market-farming mailing list Get the list FAQ at: http://www.marketfarming.net/mflistfaq.htm |
