Good and busy down here.  I do have a few samples I was asked by Skip to send up to Charles.  Do you have his phone or e-mail?  We did some E. pallida work here and had some success.  Grass weeds were a problem but annual production for small growers may be possible.  Boy is Valcho going to be good at Verona.  Sharp and motivated.

I was in sweet potato country and thought about dropping by last week but alas the day got away from me.  Next time perhaps.

Hey Bill.....Thanks for the brainstorms...I actually like the concrete siding idea, as there are already concrete sidewalks in place (we tore down an old hoophouse), it would look more uniform....may be able to bypass the wood altogether.  These are just show beds, not research, per say.....How is all on your end.....nan

Nan,

If you are doing replicated research in the beds then rectangles and sides are needed.  If not (i.e. you're doing observations or demos mostly, then you might consider raised landscape mounds and curved sides for display type beds.  Bricks, rocks, metal, precast or cast in place concrete/light concrete, or nothing can edge between these and turf or pathways.  For raised beds, you might find a donor of scrap iron sheeting.  I know there is lower metals content in PT wood these days but I know nothing on true leaching etc.  Try this site for new wood overview...

Best of luck with it,

Just hoping someone has run across a source for the new (less toxic) pressure treated wood in the southeast USA.  The university's medicinal plant garden (where I work) is NOT certified organic (go figure) but open to using less toxic stuff, and I need to build new raised beds.......
