The most recent issue of the wonderful e-zine at www.newfarm.org has a sobering article about the consequences of the U.S. government's expected response to indications of an avian bird flu.

It assumes that rather than look at individual flock health of pastured poultry operations, the US will demand that all flocks go "under cover" indoors.  I am wondering if being proactive and discussing this issue with our respective depts. of ag in our own states would be helpful.

Such a response would surely put some of our pastured poultry operations out of business here in Mississippi, or at least cause great loss of money.  The article mentions alternatives recommended by the British organic agency.  This article could at least get our agencies thinking (maybe)
