Rosemary does MUCH better from cuttings.  If you have a cool/cold greenhouse, and you get a variety you really like, try planting it in the ground in the greenhouse.  Cuttings take only 3 weeks (or less) to root and can make saleable plants in 6-7 weeks in the spring.  We have two that we have been taking cuttings from for almost 10 years, and the original plants cost us about $5.00 each.  Ours is "Hill's Hardy" bought in Dallas, TX when we were at a conference. Brought back on the plane - those were the "good ol' days"!  Anyhow, if you can, save a nice, large plant for cuttings rather than messing with seed every year.

I want to start some rosemary plants to have to sell rosemary, and maybe plants. I want culinary use (and maybe climbing for topiary). For culinary, shall I just get seed from Johnnys or Fedco, or go for a specific variety? I don't need plug trays full, just a few plants. Thanks for your advice. I did see in an ATTRA bulletin that Arp is not good for culinary use.
