Once again I'm having trouble with stuff not growing right in my Winstrip
trays! I thought I had cleaned them up good before starting off the
greenhouse season this year by hosing them off with high pressure. Last
year I ran them through the sanitize cycle in the dishwasher and that seemed
to help. I grew a nice batch of broccoli and cauliflower for fall planting
in them. I didn't want to go to the trouble of steam sterilizing again and
didn't think it was necessary if I got them clean otherwise. Apparently I
was wrong. Just about everything I have started in Winstrips this spring
has come up and looked good for a week or two, then stopped growing and just
sits there. It's deja vue all over again at least for the third or fourth
time! I just sterilized a few of them in the dishwasher that I plan to
stick pepper starts in. I'll do the rest of the peppers in clean throwaway
inserts. If the peppers won't grow in the Winstrips this round I think I'm
going to be ready to send them to the landfill, bad as I hate to.

I know Pam Dawling has been using styrofoam Speedling trays for years. They
look like they could hang on to bacterial or fungal pathogens a lot easier
than do the Winstrips and I can't imagine how they could survive a hot steam
bath. How do you clean them between uses, Pam?

Is there anyone out there using Winstrip trays and having good luck with
them? Has anyone else had similar rotten luck like I am having? This thing
has gotten me spittin mad!
