I think you mean what I think of as an "American Pattern" hoe, the hoe most commonly seen around here in stores; which is used in a chopping motion; or something like the Rogue Narrow Field Blade on the Harmony Farm site which Mark posted; which looks as if it's used in the same fashion as the American Pattern. I'm looking for a shallow weeding hoe which is slid back and forth just under the soil surface. like a scuffle hoe; I find them a lot easier on the body if doing a lot of weeding hoeing. Scuffle hoes (sometimes called stirrup hoes) work, if they're good ones; but they don't fit under the leaves of squash plants, so you can't get in as close with them as with the Doug Black.
