Hi,

I made a pretty scary discovery this summer.  I have carried health insurance through Golden Rule insurance company for a few years.  It is very basic, high deductable insurance with modest premiums. The agent swore up and down it covered farm type injuries.  But I calleed the company direct this summer and they informed me of a clause that basically says if you get injured in a way that COULD have been covered by workmans comp (even if you aren't carrying that coverage for youself, which is outrageously expensive) they would not cover it!  I was basically uncovered for over a year, which really pissed me off (hell all I did was work on the farm anyways).  This is called a workmans comp exclusion.  I have new insurance issued by the Nat'l  Assn. for self emplyed that does cover work related injuries but it is pretty expensive and came bundeled with some other coverage that I don't need.

So the question:  does anyone know of a low cost, basic (high deductble) type insurance taht does cover farmer work related injuries/illness?  I have a quote from Fortis (now called Assurant), but have not been able to get my hands on language that assures work related coverage.  Any experience with Fortis/Assurant?  Other suggestions?  Any ladies out there with great benefits that would like to marry a work-aholic farmer in exchange for free produce, undying devotion, and a great view of the CT hills?  ;-)

Thanks,

Paul
