I don't know about the latex, but there certainly *is*
evidence about the lead. This has been well-known for a
quite a long time.
People in urban areas often have their soil tested for lead
before growing edible plants in it.
On the other hand, I don't think much - if any - leaded
gasoline is still sold in the USA. ?? There are other
sources for lead contamination in soil, though.
