>From a colleague:

Are you interested in Farmer Participatory Research? On-farm research?
Interdisciplinary agricultural or food systems research? Rural development?
Farmer peer and learning groups? Participatory on-farm research or
extension?

The North American Farming Systems Association, one of six regional
associations of the International Farming Systems Association, is being
revitalized. We are beginning with a Listserv to share information and
questions about projects, programs, events, opportunities, publications,
materials, and ideas related to on-farm participatory research, whole farm
systems approaches, and farmer learning in the United States, Mexico and
Canada.

To subscribe to the NA-FSA listserv:  E-mail sejohnson AT smallfarm.org.
To help get our NA-FSA Listserv started, and build the North American
Farming Systems Association, please email a brief summary of your
interdisciplinary, on-farm research or farmer participatory development
activities or questions related to Farming Systems in North America when you
subscribe.

To distribute information through the NA-FSA listserv (or with questions or
problems subscribing) contact:  Sue Ellen Johnson.  Telephone: 413-323-4531
or email: sejohnson AT smallfarm.org

Farming Systems Research encompasses whole farm, landscape scale and
participatory approaches- whatever it takes to get a better, realistic and
scientific understanding of the biophysical and human aspects of
agricultural production systems. The International Farming Systems
Association (IFSA) helps Farming Systems research and development
stakeholders share their experiences across disciplinary and national
boundaries.

Based on twenty five years experience with the study and development of
farming systems at the farm level, the International Farming Systems
Association now extends its focus to all of the factors that effect farming
systems, including those beyond the farm gate, including local and global
policy. IFSA and NA-FSA share the goal of providing and improving
opportunities, services, and technology for small scale, sustainable farms
and farming families.  To learn more about the International Farming Systems
Association, and the new IFSA E- journal see the web:
http://www.fao.org/farmingsystems/ifsa_en.htm  (available in English,
Spanish and French)

Please forward this message to interested academic, extension, non-profit,
industry and farmer colleagues!
