I second Bill's comments about black mulch in the north based on my limited
experience ... it really cooked weeds in unplanted patches the last few years
(my limited experience).

I am currently using it under my slated deer-fence to keep the weeds down.
the only issue for me seems to be keeping it in place. (un)fortunately I have
tons of shale rocks kicked up by my tiller ...
