Seeding cucurbits into plastic mulch can run into problems, but not directly
due to the mulch. If you have problems with mice or other rodents feeding on
seeds, plastic mulch gives them cover and you give them food in the form of
your seeds. So most of the growers around here use transplants. Nice thing
about cukes and S squash, it only takes about 20 days to make a transplant.
