(Our hoophouse is as yet unbuilt.) My little plants -
waiting to be transplanted to the garden - are on the deck.
It keeps raining and raining, so I'm having difficulty
getting them all transplanted to the garden.
Our deck has a railing around it, and we put woven wire
fencing across one corner of the railing (to keep the dogs
out primarily) to make a triangle-shaped area for the
plants.
I can cover either all or part of the triangle with either
clear plastic or translucent plastic or shade cloth.
I anchor the shade cloth (for example) on the railing with
bricks, so two sides of it sit there nicely anchored by
bricks. Then I fasten it to the woven wire fencing that
constitutes the third side of the triangle, using clothes
pins.
I have a large container of salad greens growing there also,
and I use the shade cloth on hot afternoons to shelter the
salad greens from the sun. This should enable me to have
lettuce right through the season.
I know my scale of growing is mini-microscopic but I include
this description just in case you - or maybe someone else -
can glean an idea from it.
