Yes, purpling is usually a phosphorous deficiency. This often occurs
when plants are planted in soil that is too cold. Cold prevents
phosphorous uptake by the plants.

Seems to me I read once that this could also be a boron deficiency - but
phosphorous deficiency is the most likely culprit.
