Poast is labeled for Carrots and will not harm any broadleaf plants,
including the carrots. Carrots are actually a very resilient plant once
they're established. They have labels for some pretty strong postemergence
broadleaf herbicides as well, like Lorox and Sencor. I think it's true, that
in the old days they used kerosene as a postemergence herbicide on carrots.
I've heard the same story. Carrots have a strong taproot early in their life
and they build storage energy (photosynthesis) into it early. They also grow
leaves out of a growing point at ground level. When herbicides such as
kerosene are applied, these traits protect the carrots, even though the
foliage may be damaged. The carrot will grow new foliage quickly and
recover. On the other hand, I can't imagine what kerosene does to the soil
life. I'm glad those days are behind us. They also used lead arsenic and
nicotine bombs back then. If I remember right, there was some mercury
pesticide used in orchards too. It wasn't always the "Good Old Days".

Willie poast is good to spray for grass over crops, I don't know if it would
be OK for carrots. Corn also it wont work on. Kerosene, ? I don't know that
I would spray it with out trying on just a few plants. I had never heard
that. Bill
