Shep -
I hope you will talk about any of those topics in more detail.
I heard you talk a few years ago on TGs at Occidental and you opened great areas of insight into this situation and the motivation and technology behind it that I wasn't becoming aware of through discussions within the organic farm community.
Can you give us more information on why you prefer the word 'transgenics'?
Also, can you comment on this: About 5 years ago we had one of the members of the original USDA organic rule team speak at a MSOGBA conference in Charles Town, WV. He said at that time that if anyone thought they could REALLY buy a GMO free soy bean in the US they were kidding themselves. He meant, among other things, that the seed stock was already tainted. (He was also referring to organically certified soy beans from Asia that were being imported into this country and which he didn't feel were from non-GMO seed stock.
As I said earlier, it concerns me that as organic growers we may us non-GMO as a sales point but, really, how do we know that our claims are true?
Thanks for your efforts,
-Allan Balliett
